Sound variations

In the sonic environment dancers have a small amount of control over the material, in terms of selecting, depending on their location on stage, what sounds are triggered. Thus, each area of the stage is populated with variations of a distinct sound, and each version has a slightly different internal rhythm, duration, texture.

The following sounds exemplify what these variations are like. They can be played individually or mixed. When playing them mixed it is ideal not to combine sounds that have the same numbers repeated. The numbering system is part of the implementation method, with each number group corresponding to a different area on stage.

Some sounds are quieter. Preparing for the performance I have mixed the sounds in the actual theatre in such a way that the mix is balanced at the intended volume level during performance. Depending on what playback system is used they can sound more or less balanced.
